Fall Fun on a Budget
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend. We did! The weather was spectacular which is a bonus this time of year. We traveled to Armstrong for the weekend to visit with family and friends. We purposefully left Vancouver after having a bite to eat so that we wouldn’t have to make any stops and to let the traffic die down. Although we arrived late on Friday night, it was an uneventful drive and meant that we had the whole day on Saturday.
Here are some of the things we did over the weekend that were a lot of fun and didn’t cost us much:
- A getaway for the weekend: 2 tanks of gas ($100), 1 meal on the road on the way home ($30)
- Coffee and treats while running errands on Saturday ($17)
- A visit to the pumpkin patch: 5 pumpkins, 3 squash (for soup) ($20)
- Bread to bring home (best bread ever!): 2 Canadian Rye, 1 sourdough ($10)
- Bonfires
- Feeding the neighbours’ horses and sheep
- Playing at the Red Brick School park
We also took the opportunity to get a couple things done in preparation for winter and growing kids:
- Ski boots for our youngest (everything for the rest of us still fits) – 2nd hand ($40)
- Winter ski coats for both girls and a pair of winter boots for our eldest – ($150)
A couple items which haven’t been added in yet include:
- A birthday gift for Granny: 70 years!
- Food and drinks for the weekend and a birthday celebration on Saturday night
All in all, a great weekend that didn’t cost much for our family but was a fantastic holiday.
